Subject: Alstonefield Weekend

With the Flossie concert coming up next weekend can I ask you to circulate the attached flyer and the following information to the great and good out there in cyberland?

Flossie Malavialle will be appearing at Alstonefield Village Hall on Saturday July 7th. Less well known to you will be the support act, John Meed, a wonderful singer songwriter from Cambridge (Discovered one night in The Watts Russell Arms!)

As usual we will be making a weekend of it so the Book store and Coffee shop will be open in the village hall on Saturday between 10 am and 3 pm. We now have a huge stock of second-hand books and the Alstonefield cakes are pretty good too! If you plan to hang around then Sunday lunchtime sees a session in The Royal Oak at Wetton (A musician friendly pub!) Bring your instruments and your ears! Even better, bring your walking boots and take in part of White Peak over the weekend!

More details can be found on the attached flyer together with details of forthcoming events. Please help us by displaying and or distributing.

Bon Chance duck!

Biddulph Up in arms Concerts
The next event, on Wednesday 4 July  at The Biddulph Arms sees one of the best folk bands to make an impact on the national scene, Pilgrim's Way paying their first visit to the club.
"Pilgrims' Way", an arresting new young trio from the North West, are stamping their feisty, refreshing take on trad folk firmly on the roots scene. Taking their name from the Rudyard Kipling poem "A Pilgrim's Way", a life creed set to music by the great Peter Bellamy, the innovative acoustic threesome hail from Stockport and are bound together not only by musical roots – but also red hair!
The line-up comprises the quirkily distinctive, captivating vocals of a new face on the scene – Leicestershire-born, Lincolnshire-raised Lucy Wright, who is also a fine Jews' harp player – carrying on a long family tradition. Lucy has joined forces with fiddler Tom Kitching, a former BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards finalist. Probably best known as one half of a duo with singer-songwriter & guitarist Gren Bartley, Tom has been described by Living Tradition magazine as "one of the best young fiddlers in Britain" and also plays a mean mandolin. The third "pilgrim" is inventive box player Edwin Beasant -an incorrigible and talented multi-instrumentalist, who also plays guitar and bass and had a stint as drummer with Jabadaw.
Focusing on "gimmick free folk" and drawing inspiration from some of the most influential bands of the 60s and 70s revival, the resulting sound is edgier than the folk on the village green but firmly rooted in the traditions of England and its cross-currents with Ireland and America. This is their debut album on the award-winning and prestigious Fellside label.
Support for the evening sees Gren Bartley, who has appeared in his own right at the club last year coming along for a half-hour set. This young singer/songwriter who is rapidly making a name for himself should complement the evenings entertainment and an outstanding evening is in store.
With a 7.30p.m. for 8.00p.m. strt, admission is £12 ( pay on the door) and seats my be reserved by contacting Eric Cox on 01782 514896.

CRYSTAL FOLK
A message here from Anne Adam's
Hi all,
Just a quick line to say that the tickets are available for our next guests Dave Ellis and Boo Howard on the 13th July which will be 2 weeks this coming Friday. It's been an unusually quiet spell for the club hopefully due to the Football and Festivals, so come and sing and play away those Footie blues. Hope to see you this Friday with a regular singers night.
Regards Anne x

Lost Key
Stephen Gullick sent a message re Spittlebrook's Tues night session. If you were there and lost a key (not the musical kind) it was found in the room and is safely kept behind the bar.

And that's all for this week, short n'sweet. Enjoy Your Weekend

P.S many thanks for all your birthday wishes on Facebook and e.mail

FROM STEVE GULLICK

Hi Everyone

I didn't get out a lot last week; however, I did manage to get to the Four Crosses session at Cannock and well worth it, it was too. Great selection of music and song and always nice to see new faces at these sessions. Next one a week on Monday, don't miss!

I have not heard any news about the Spittalbrook session so I assume it went OK, and similarly, I understand that Jeff, who normally lets me know what is happening at the Rose and Crown could not make it last week, but again, having heard nothing I am assuming that all is well.

Next week we have;

Tuesday – Spittalbrook as normal. Starts about 8.30, but get there a bit earlier if you want to sit down!

Wednesday – Rose and Crown. Fabulous selection of live acoustic music and something for all tastes. One of the few Joules Pubs in the area and it has a
resident poltergeist, so there is always a good atmosphere here!

Thursday has Frank Ryan's trad folk and blues session at the Lamb & Flag at Little Haywood.  Always a great session and one that I always try to get to.

That's about it for this week, but don't forget our own Stafford FM Folk programme on Monday nights hosted by our very own Gary Hazelhurst!

Hope to see you at one or more of the above

Cheers

Steve
