Hi folks

Just to remind you that the Potteries Folk Club have a singers' Night at the White Star in Stoke on Friday 13th  several people have contacted us up to yet, so hopefully we'll have spots from Sons of Clogger, Jeff Parton and Beth Holland, Malcolm Hawksworth, and Ted Hulse and maybe Lin Hulse too.  Sounds very exciting so far, I'm sure there will be more.  Hope to see you there

Cheers
Lorna

NOW FOR LOTS OF INFO RECEIVED
There was actually a lot more than this, but I was too late to send some and there was others which really didn't state exactly where they were taking place and were therefore quite confusing – sorry everyone

NEW INFO CONCERNING THE BUXTON FRINGE
Hi Lorna

Is it too late to ask you to put in a mention for Karen and Liz (now aka the Roaring Owls) who are appearing in the Barrel Room (Undrground Venues at the Buxton Festival Fringe on Sunday 15th July at 3.45pm?

We have sung at the sessions around the Waterhouses and Leek areas, and will be presenting a mainly traditional folk from the British isles (with contemporary bits and the odd American interloper, mainly a capella harmonies but with guitar and maybe the odd flute or fiddle - we'd be very happy to see any folkies there!)

Thanks,
Liz Turner

Subject: RE: TUESDAYS AT THE FORRESTERS YOXALL
Hello all.
The new open mic that has started every TUESDAY in yoxall at the foresters pub is struggling so far with the football and all.
Its on the A515 half a mile north of the village on the left hand side.
Its a nice pub run by a decent bloke who wants to support local musicians. It is run by myself (keith) who runs the one at the royal   oak.   Its every Tuesday, so support the pubs who support you.
See you soon.
Keith
P.S. THE ROYAL OAK IS UNDER NEW MANAGMENT AND IS CONTINUING EVERY SUNDAY NIGHT AS USUAL.

Apologies everyone
Pete Kelly's Open Mic nights are of course Every Tuesday at The Queens in Wolverly, I got my info mixed up doh!

Black Country & Midlands Acoustic & Folk News
DESI'S USUAL WEST MIDLAND ROUND UP
Good Morning Everybody, a new week, a new month, I'd like to say new weather but yeah it's a very familiar looking forecast for the week, could be a juicy July! But the weather doesn't affect good music and as ever there is plenty of that. So lets see what's in store

We often feature events at clubs from outside the area and happy to do so. But just for a change let's go round our local scene in detail. The Clarendon Acoustic Music Club starts the week on Monday nights at Bank's Flagship Pub The Clarendon Hotel. With it's regular Singaround run by Linda & John Collier in aid of Breakthrough For Breast Cancer Charity. They even lay on Free Sandwiches in the upstairs function room. Very friendly club with lots of quality players and beginners welcome too.

Tuesday is Folk At The Oak over at The Royal Oak Pub in Tettenhall, also run in aid of Breakthrough. Host Emmi Bose hosts their weekly Singers Night with P.A and more free sandwiches!

The ever popular Pete Kelly's Open Mic night also on Tues at The Plough in Stourbridge. Haven't got to this yet but hear all good things about it.

Wednesday is Willenhall Folk Club, at The New Invention Victory Club on Lichfield Rd, hosted by Gwyn & Pete. Long running club with Singers night and guest nights approx once a month. This Wed is a Singers Night admission £1, next wed is a guest night with Dave Cartwright £5 on door

Thursday has two regular popular long running clubs. Regular Singers nights at The Lighthouse F.C n ow at The Labour Club in Rowley Regis hosted by Sue Stevens
And
Common Folk, over at The Cricket Club, Pelsall Common, Pelsall, mix of Singers Nights and frequent Guest Nights. This Thurs is a Singers night, on July 12th a guest night with The Laners

Brewood Folk Club this Thurs is a Singers Night with Denis

Friday nights is The Long running Crystal Folk hosted by Anne Adams at The Liberal Club, Blackheath Rowley Regis. Lively Singers Nights Inc P.A and occasional guest nights, with a prompt 8:30 start

Also on Friday
The Unicorn Folk Club at The Bradford Arms in Wheaton Aston has a Double Bill guest night with Bayard Colts & Nigel Bullock
The Woodman At Ashwod Marina DY6 0AQ hosts The John Richards Band
And Chase Folk Club, WS7 2PH  is a Singers night
And if you fancy something different, try The Trad Arts Team Storytelling event
At The Imperial Rooms Matlock
Where Mike Payton & Rachel Murray with tales themed 'going for gold'  a very topical Olympics theme
Food from 6:30, starts 6:30

Sunday nights, a venue deserving better support is The Hop Pole in at Bilston town's market place, they have a regular jam/open mic night from 7:30 till late. Full P.A available. A great chance to go and have an extended play.

Also worth a mention at The HopPole on Monday afternoons from 2:30 to around 6 pm they have an old fashioned Free N'Easy with a regular trio backing anyone who wants to get up and sing a song or three, they'e also happy to accomodate those who play instruments and want to get up with or without backing like myself. Maybe not for the serious Folkies as it's a lively noisy event, but as I always say, if you're good enough they listen. The pub also has music events from Rock, Country, Reggae, Karaoke etc most nights of the week

SIDMOUTH FOLK FESTIVAL
Not in our area but I know a fair few locals like to attend Sidmouth which starts this year on August 3rd to the 10th. For those of you not wanting to risk this years muddy fields Sidmouth is a town fest with the music, including regular open Mic nights, based in pubs and halls around the town centre. Featuring a wide range of artists, including this year

June Tabor & Oysterband* Norma Waterson & Liza Carthy with The Gift Band* Seth Lakeman* Edward 11* Spiers & Boden* Show Of Hands with Miranda Sykes* Donal Luney*
Martin Simpson* and severa more.
Prices held at 2011 level

And to round off this week, our usual Staff's round up by Stephen Gullick, followed by north Staff's Folk Diary Club list from Lorna Davis
I didn't get out a lot last week; however, I did manage to get to the Four Crosses session at Cannock and well worth it, it was too. Great selection of music and song and always nice to see new faces at these sessions. Next one a week on Monday, don't miss!

I have not heard any news about the Spittalbrook session so I assume it went OK, and similarly, I understand that Jeff, who normally lets me know what is happening at the Rose and Crown could not make it last week, but again, having heard nothing I am assuming that all is well.

Next week we have;

Tuesday – Spittalbrook as normal. Starts about 8.30, but get there a bit earlier if you want to sit down!

Wednesday – Rose and Crown. Fabulous selection of live acoustic music and something for all tastes. One of the few Joules Pubs in the area and it has a resident poltergeist, so there is always a good atmosphere here!

Thursday has Frank Ryan's trad folk and blues session at the Lamb & Flag at Little Haywood.  Always a great session and one that I always try to get to.

That's about it for this week, but don't forget our own Stafford FM Folk programme on Monday nights hosted by our very own Gary Hazelhurst!

Hope to see you at one or more of the above
And that's all for now Friends, enjoy the music and Enjoy your day
Desi C ;)
