Mid Cheshire Music Trains and Menus - July and August.

Hello

Music Trains Programme for July and August.

We have music from popular Music Train regulars Acoustak and The Weavils; a jazz quartet, Marts ManJazz4, on the train to and from Jazz in Chester in July and the versatile Dmitri string quartet in August; the multi-instrumental Deportees (successors to Root Chords) and popular Geoff Higginbottom.

Music Train Menus

The Golden Pheasant at Plumley and the Greyhound at Ashley are well-known for their food.  Both have special Music Train menus which you can download from the MidCheshire website.  The menus have a selection of the best that each pub has to offer - ranging from sandwiches and baguettes to main dishes and puddings.  It helps if you can order in advance or from the train – you will get your food more quickly once you get to the pub – just tell the bar staff which table you are at.  At Alexander's your bangers'n mash, with gravy, is included in the package price – and there's a great choice of sausages (including vegetarian), mashes and gravies.

Wednesday 11 July - Chester to Ashley -  daytime

Deportees on the train and at the Greyhound.  Mick, Adrian and Graham play guitars, mandolin, mandocello, bouzouki and banjo as well as harmonica and melodeon.  "Most of all they sing - three voices finding unexpected harmonies in a mix of old and recent songs from both sides of the Atlantic." You'll hear songs to join in with, songs to make you think, songs to move you and songs to get you moving (Leaves Chester at 12:07 and returns from Ashley at 14:52)

Wednesday 18 July - Altrincham/Knutsford to Chester - evening

Alan Jeffs & Endangered Species at Alexanders in Chester and MartsManJazz4 on both trainsEndangered Species's performances are always different, always challenging for the musicians involved, and - most importantly - always enjoyable for the audience.  They include Paul McRae (double bass), Mike Holmes (drums) and the newly-discovered vocal talents of Jacky Q. Expect to hear some well-known songs, but also some less familiar ones!  MartsManJazz4 are four musicians from Mart Rodger's Manchester Jazz.  "Our music is based on the jazz sounds of early musicians from New Orleans, and Chicago - and influenced by the Great British revivalist jazz musicians of the 1940s to 1950s."  As well as buying your train ticket, you need to book the package deal of bangers'n mash plus taxis to and from the station at Chester online at www.alexanderslive.com. (Leaves Altrincham at 18:46 and returns from Chester at 22:48)

Wednesday 25 July - Chester to Plumley – evening

The Weavils on the train and at the Golden Pheasant.   The Weavils are "the four-piece band from the banks of the mighty River Weaver in Northwich, playing tunes from the far-flung corners of the world."  Nothing and no-one is sacred: Blues, Calypso, Jazz, Bossa Nova, Ska, Reggae, South African, Traditional Folk, Klezmer and Gloria Gaynor. (Leaves Chester at 19:07 and returns from Plumley at 22:03).

Wednesday 8 August - Chester to Ashley -  daytime

Geoff Higginbottom and Rob Carroll on the train and at the Greyhound .  Geoff Higginbottom and Rob Carroll play guitars, bodhran and mandolin and sing traditional and contemporary songs. Geoff sings traditional songs (his powerful voice being ideal for the chorus songs he loves) and also contemporary song from a variety of sources. Their whole act is spiced with a delightful sense of humour.  A great afternoon of songs to join in with.  (Leaves Chester at 12:07 and returns from Ashley at 14:52)

Wednesday 15 August - Altrincham/Knutsford to Chester – evening.

Tim Franks Quartet at Alexanders in Chester and The Dimitri Quartet on both trainsThe Dmitri Quartet formed in 2008 at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. They are a young, vibrant quartet who are dedicated to showing the versatility of the string quartet, frequently performing pop, rock, jazz and folk as well as the more typical classical music. Since their formation they have been in great demand and perform regularly at events all round the UK.  Playing on a Music Train is a first for them and for us!  As well as buying your train ticket, you need to book the package deal of bangers'n mash plus taxis to and from the station at Chester online at www.alexanderslive.com. (Leaves Altrincham at 18:46 and returns from Chester at 22:48)

Wednesday 22 August - Chester to Plumley – Acoustak on the train and at the Golden Pheasant.    Acoustak's repertoire ranges from country, folk and pop through to bluegrass and old time.  Their music covers a diverse range, from country, folk, pop through to bluegrass and old time.  Particular influences include Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, Hank Williams and Creedence Clearwater Revival.  (Leaves Chester at 19:07 and returns from Plumley at 22:03).
