A GREAT MID-WEEK CONCERT FROM CHESHIRE FOLK: GALLEY BEGGARKent's GALLEY BEGGAR – the next phase of English Folk Rock at MIDDLEWICH* on WEDNESDAY 6TH JUNE 2012Who are Galley Beggar?Taking inspiration from the likes of Fairport Convention, Pentangle and Led Zeppelin's acoustic explorations, Galley Beggar's music sets out to imagine the next phase of English Folk Rock. Their live performances bring the intensity of a rock band to electric folk and include plenty of instrument changes as they move from music found within the collections of Cecil Sharp and Francis Child through to electrified psychedelic freakouts. Harmony vocals, electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin, violin, recorder, bass and drums make up the sound of Galley Beggar. Their visit to Middlewich is part of their 2012 summer tour of the UK, promoting their second album – no doubt they will be selling both CDs at this concert so come along armed with some extra cash! Reviews"The themes and textures of Galley Beggar's music all combine together to form a well produced selection of songs that bring a bygone age – or bygone ages – into the twenty-first century. It's a gorgeous, gorgeous sound that demands repeated listens." – Stephen Morris, BBC Introducing "This septet ticks every folk rock box you can think of, from big harmonies to stately, thumping rhythms to diddly and, indeed, diddly" – Rock N Reel Magazine "For any fans of the traditional Folk Rock genre, the addition of Reformation House to your record collection can only be a good thing." – Bright Young Folk "Producing work likes this will establish Galley Beggar among the folk rock favourites. Even if that means they steal fans from more illustrious bands" – Folk Words "The British folk music scene is healthier than ever with bands like Mumford and Sons and Stornoway. Galley Beggar deserve to be up there too." – The Gig Guide Supported by: ESTHER BRENNAN*The Boars Head, Kinderton St, Middlewich, Cheshire CW10 0JE Doors open: 7:30 pm Tickets: £8 :: Box Office: 07790 082523 or 01606 834969 Black Country & Midlands Acoustic & Folk News Good Morning Everybody. Wife says I'm not to buy any more (have 5 already). I play a bit of tenor, not Irish, mainly chords for a country dance band. Could be interested (divorce looming) What I do have (Mike - please distribute to rest of your contacts) which may be of use to fellow banjoists is a new. large size near weightless fully padded full length 5 string banjo case which was 1st prize in last year's Midlands Banjo Festival raffle. I couldn't believe winning this just after I had finished making a box for a cheap banjo I bought in a junk shop. It's black and really state of the art, very strong and now suplus to requirements so any offers would be welcome. I'll try and get a photo sent to anyone interested I'll also deliver it to anywhere sensible in the E Mids or it can be collected from where I live between Ashby DLZ and Swadlincote Regards Mike Lawley Tel / Fax: 01283 212284 | ||
