The Mercury nominated Unthanks see folk as an ongoing unwritten history, rather than a style of music. Influenced as much by the minimalist eccentricity of Steve Reich, Antony & The Johnsons, Robert Wyatt and Miles Davis, as they are by their Geordie native North East England, they prove that staunch traditionalism and sonic adventure need not be opposites. For the past three years, The Unthanks have toured as a ten piece troupe but this handful of shows sees the Tynesiders return to where they began, playing cosier venues - they've grown used to cathedrals and large concert halls - with just their core quintet for a more intimate experience.
