FIL CAMPBELL from Northern Ireland. Tickets: £9
+ Local Support t.b.a.
These are the songs that come to every Irish music lovers lips at the pluck of a harp or the sight of a pint of Guinness. There could be no better songbird than Fil Campbell to lovingly recreate the songs and life stories of our Irish forebears with this live performance.
Fil Campbell, from Co Fermanagh, is a musician, radio presenter, and star of RTE TV series Songbirds, about the lives of female Irish singers from the 1930s onwards and brings real Irish charm and lilting voice to her live appearances.
Fil accompanies herself on guitar and performs either solo, in a duo with percussionist Tom McFarland or in a trio with Tom and mandolin player Brendan Emmett. Fil will be joined on this occasion by Tom McFarland.
"Her sweet voice and lilting chords bring emotion and life to songs that others 'just' sing"...iTunes review
Fil grew up in Belleek in Co. Fermanagh. She was brought up on the folk songs that were popular in Fermanagh and Donegal and spent her childhood immersed in music. With both ceilidh bands and singers in the family, music was all around and performance was part of everyday life, both at home and at school. She started singing semi professionally while still at school, returning to full time performing in the 1990s after a spell working as a music publicist and radio presenter for BBC Northern Ireland.
She has recorded 5 CDs to date: 3 recordings of original and contemporary material, followed by 2 charming CD collections of popular Irish folk songs from the 30s and 40s.
