Lymm Folk Club Weekly News
22-06-2011
LAST WEEK:
Michelle Holding with Bonz - this duo have gone from strength to strength over the past year or so, and were well received by a small but appreciative audience. Bonz provides subtle and sensitive accompaniment (slide guitar, banjo and harmonica) to Michelle's singing, as well as being the butt of her patter...! They will be back.
Support was provided by Stewart, Nelson Peach and Bernard, with a pre-raffle-ite spot from John Condy and a pre-raffle-ite clog dance from Ruth Bibby!
THIS WEEK (AND NEXT!):
We're into Lymm Festival with Stanley Accrington for openers on Thursday June 23rd at the Spread Eagle! That's also the 'Food Fest' evening in the village centre, so you can do both!
Our Lymm Festival 2011 Folk Events information is available on the website (http://www.lymmfolkclub.org.uk/lymmfest2011.html), and also appears in the village festival brochure - get your copy!
Tickets have already started selling, so make sure you aren't disappointed by getting yours booked early - and you will see on the booking form that we are offering a 'season ticket' this year for the first time - and they have started selling, too. This effectively gives you free entry to one of the guest concerts. The festival concerts offer excellent value for money, as there is a wide variety of folk entertainment to suit all tastes!
Tickets (not the Season Ticket) are also available from the Festival Box Office on Pepper Street if that suits you better. They are open from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Thursday and Friday this week, and from 10.00am to 6.00pm for the remainder of the Festival.
STOP PRESS!
People have been asking about children's ticket prices... Sorry, but there aren't any...
This year, however, children who are fifteen or under will be admitted free if with a responsible adult!

PLEASE NOTE:
The 'Jake Thackray Experience' at the Golden Fleece (with 'Fake Thackrays' John Watterson and Paul Thompson) is not connected with the Lymm Folk Club events - we will have the genuine, hilariously original and unique Stanley Accrington at the Spread Eagle... For example (sung in the style of a shanty!):
He's got little piggy eyes and he's got no neck
Rooney, oh Rooney
He plays like Pele but he looks like Shrek
Rooney, oh Rooney
ACOUSTIC CONCERT ('Open Mic')
All spots had been filled, but the Fridge Poets have unfortunately had to pull out - if you'd like to take over their slot, please contact me by Friday morning at the very latest - otherwise we will simply settle for nine 'turns'!
This year, the audience will be asked to vote for their favourites, and the 'winner' will be offered a club gig on Thursday August 4th 2011 - non-negotiable, so if you're not available on that date we'll ask the runner-up
and so on!
Club Organisers - make sure you're at our Open Mic, as the standard is always high - and admission is FREE!
INFORMATION:
If in doubt, download the RTF: http://www.lymmfolkclub.org.uk/lymm_where.rtf (updated weekly).
TICKETS:
Don't forget a saving can be made by booking your tickets in advance - use our online forms http://www.lymmfolkclub.org.uk/lymm_tickets.html> - you can submit either by post (details on the form) or by email. Cheques to be made payable to Bernard Cromarty, or ask for my bank details if you prefer online banking.
LOST TICKETS:
It hasn't happened yet
but, in case it does, when you purchase a ticket I record your name against the ticket(s) you have bought in a spreadsheet. I have my laptop with me on club nights, so I can easily check which tickets you've booked, so don't panic! More to the point, if someone tries to use your missing ticket, I will know! Hee hee!
TEXT MESSAGING:
Whilst text messaging to UK landlines is now available, please do not send them to me as I don't usually receive them... my answering machine intercepts incoming calls, so the messages are usually delivered before the answering machine's own message has finished. The result is that I don't get the information to be able to access the messages, and am usually not even aware that they exist.
Whilst I do have a mobile phone, it is paid for by my employer, so it wouldn't be right for me to use it for club business, nor is it appropriate for me to be dealing with club business on my employer's time. Email, snail mail or conventional telephone, please!
MAILING LIST:
If you know anyone who wishes to be on our mailing list, simply forward this email to them, ask them to contact me on mailto:list@lymmfolkclub.org.uk, and I'll add them. The group is 'closed', which means only real people added or invited by me may become members. 'Spam Bots' and the like cannot add themselves and cause trouble. Richard Peach (of Nelson Peach) is also an administrator of the group, which is a precaution in case I'm indisposed for any reason.
