Hello People interested in the Boat Band(hopefully) Autumn is here, the jamjars are glowing full of rowan, apple, damson and bramble jellies, and the sloe gin is contentedly empurpling itself in the back of the cupboard. Back from a couple of lovely gigs oop in't North (Glasson Dock, Lancs, and Foxfield, Cumbria), it's time for the first Wednesday tune-around and singsong at the Greyhound in Penkhull. (Stoke-on-Trent ST something or other if you need to set your Satnav). That's next week, Wednesday October 5. Now, we don't normally use Boat Band newsletters to advertise other things(it could get irritating, and contravene the Data Protection Act): but could we just this once annouce the new season's start of the Clay Chorus? It's a community choir/singing group(call it what you wiil), specially designed for people who don't read music, and who maybe don't consider themselves singers, but would like to have a go at harmony singing. We meet every Monday at Burslem School of Art, 7.15-9.15PM, and the subscription is £4.50 per session. WE mainly meet for the fun of it, but we do perform from time to time, often for theatrical shows(e.g. The Penkhull Mysteries). The next outing is to do songs for the B.Arts"Harvest" show at the end of the month in Northwood, Stoke-on-Trent, sop we are currently rehearsing some seasonally appropriate material. (After that it will Christmas, but that's another story). The connection with the Boat Band is that Kate Barfield leads the group, and Greg Stephens helps with musical arrangements, song research etc. If you've not been before, might be as well to get in touch before turning up to ask about practicalities, parking etc. So hope to see some of you somewhere soon Regards The Boat Band. PS Anyone currently in Cork? The Boat Band will be there Sep 30-Oct 5 Usual disclaimer: don't want to get emails? Let us know and we'll delete you. We are sending them in the honest belief that the addresses on the list belong people who have some interest in our musical activities in the region, but mistakes can happen in the best regulated households.
