Folk in the Park
This is the 18th Folk in the Park, the annual open-air concert organised by Biddulph Folk Club (and the centre piece of the Biddulph Festival) where the folk are the people rather than the music. The audience is invited to bring their own chairs and tables, food and drink (sorry no BBQ’s allowed) where people of all ages sit and listen or dance the night away to over five and a half hours of top-class music in a wonderful setting.

Introducing the bands:
The Nanateas: a local band from Brown Lees who delighted us all last year when they played support to Chumbawamba. Consisting of Andy (acoustic guitar.vocals), Dan (bass guitar & backing vocals), Paul (guitar) and Ang (drums) they play a mixture of self-penned songs with some covers. A talented group and one to watch out for.

Sarah Savoy & the Francadians: are a group of dedicated musicians based in Paris, France, led by Louisiana-born and-raised Sarah Savoy. Brought up by two of the most influential names in Cajun music, Sarah fronts this band of French musicians David Rolland (Stompin' Crawfish, Daisy Belle, Villaine Maniere), Vincent Blin, and Manolo Gonzales as if it were any group of similarly young musicians playing in the Cajun heartland of Lafayette, Louisiana, where Sarah got her start. With the Francadians, Sarah performs traditional Cajun and Zydeco music, reaching back as far as the earliest roots of Louisiana music with covers of Amedee Ardoin, Joe and Cleoma Falcon, and Iry LeJeune, among others.

ahab stole the show last year at Fairport Convention’s Cropredy festival performing to a crowd of nearly 20,000 people. This London based band, consisting of Callum Adamson (12 string guitar & vocals) Luke Price (mandolin & vocals), Dave Burn (guitar & vocals) and Seebe Llewellyn (bass guitar & vocals) give their take on alt-country folk rock and combine stunning four-part harmonies and virtuoso instrumental work with an indie edginess.

The Jalapenos, a rock and roll outfit who are back by popular demand and are great to end the night with. Renowned for their astonishingly energetic and visual live shows, Charlie Davidson (guitar and vocals), Doctor Martyn (bass and vocals) and Diamond Dave (drums and vocals) have a formula which is unique amongst contemporary bands : talent + humour + excitement = fun! So, expect some rock and roll classics mixed up with some of their self-penned material.

A Free Cajun Cookery Demonstration: The Biddulph Arms: Saturday 9 July: 2.00p.m. to 3.00p.m.

Sarah Savoy is a leading exponent of Cajun cookery ( with Jamie Oliver including some of her recipes in his cook book) and while she  demonstrates the preparation and method of cooking Cajun dishes such as gumbo, jambalaya, sauce piquant, bananas foster, sweet potato pie and many others, the Francadians play nearby. Sarah joins them to entertain as the dish simmers on the stovetop, and she plays her guitar, sings, jokes and shares stories about food-related events in her life and answers questions...and hopefully   we will get a taste of real Cajun cooking.

Although a free event...it’s by ticket only and priority will be given to Folk in the Park ticket holders, so please call Eric to reserve your place (01782 514896).
