Lymm Folk Club Weekly News
18-05-2011
LAST WEEK:
Singers Night at the Spread Eagle. People always comment after each of our Singers Nights on how high the standard has been - we had 21 performers last week, and almost got around twice
it wouldn't be fair to single anyone out for comment, so come along to the next one and find out for yourself! If you're a performer and haven't yet had a go, polish something up and bring it along!
THIS WEEK:
The living legend who is George Papavgeris will be at the Spread Eagle on May 19th! Many high-profile performers such as Vin Garbutt have recorded George's songs - do make sure you learn these words (or at least print them off!), as it's the chorus to a festival singaround favourite that George is bound to sing:
Who needs fame and who needs fortune
And who needs a life of ease?
I'm the richest in the country
When I'm blessed with friends like these!

NEXT WEEK:
Singers Night BIG SPOT with Eddie and Terry! Their last Big Spot was on August 9th 2007, only a month after the Railway closed
This promises to be a memorable night! We are entertained by the singers/musicians who have turned up on the night, and our Big Spot is after the break.
FOR YOUR DIARY:
Other guest nights coming up over the next few weeks: Bram Taylor at the Spread on June 2nd, and Michelle Holding with Bonz on June 16th - then we're into Lymm Festival with Stanley Accrington for openers on June 23rd!
If in doubt, download the RTF: http://www.lymmfolkclub.org.uk/lymm_where.rtf (updated weekly).
Lymm Festival 2011 is only a month away! Our Folk Events information is now on the website (http://www.lymmfolkclub.org.uk/lymmfest2011.html), and also appears in the village festival brochure - get your copy!
The entry form for the Songwriting Competition (Sunday June 26th at the Rugby Club) can be downloaded - http://www.lymmfolkclub.org.uk/song2011form.pdf... I will accept entries either by post or by hand, but NOT by email, please. If posting, do be sure to obtain a certificate of postage, as entries will be accepted strictly in the order I receive them. As ever, the running order will be decided with raffle tickets. The (senior) winner will also be offered a Big Spot on Thursday July 28th.
If you'd like an Open Mic spot (Saturday June 25th at the Rugby Club) you may either email me, telephone or ask me in person - but hurry! There are ten spots available, first come, first served, and they are quickly being claimed - keep your eye on the website to see how the list is progressing! A brief piece of promotional information about each performer/duo/band should be submitted with your entry, please - maybe even a photo!
This year, the audience will be asked to vote for their favourites, and the 'winner' will be offered a club gig on Thursday August 4th 2011 - non-negotiable, so if you're not available on that date we'll ask the runner-up
and so on!
Club Organisers - make sure you're at our Open Mic, as the standard is always high - and admission is FREE!
TICKETS:
Don't forget a saving can be made by booking your tickets in advance - use our online forms http://www.lymmfolkclub.org.uk/lymm_tickets.html - you can submit either by post (details on the form) or by email. Cheques to be made payable to Bernard Cromarty, or ask for my bank details if you prefer online banking.
MAILING LIST:
If you know anyone who wishes to be on our mailing list, simply forward this email to them, ask them to contact me on mailto:list@lymmfolkclub.org.uk, and I'll add them. The group is 'closed', which means only real people added or invited by me may become members. 'Spam Bots' and the like cannot add themselves and cause trouble. Richard Peach (of Nelson Peach) is also an administrator of the group, which is a precaution in case I'm indisposed for any reason.
UNSUBSCRIBING?
If you are wondering how you ended up on this list, and wish to 'unsubscribe', there is a link at the bottom of this message - and please accept my sincerest apologies.
