| A distinct flurry of local N Staffs/Cheshire activity. First, this weekend NEWCASTLE-UNDER-LYME JAZZ AND BLUES FESTIVAL Saturday May 28, Old Brown Jug, the Boat Band on from 5-7 (after two trad bands). We'll be sticking to our musically appropriate cajun, creole and New Orleans material
AUDLEM FESTIVAL Monday May 30 Lord Combermere, 1-2PM the Boat Band will be playing a slightly more eclectic mix (after our set the very wonderful Loudmouth Women will be doing a couple of spots over the road in Audlem church).
Then FIRST WEDNESDAY at the GREYHOUND, PENKHULL Wednesday June 1. As usual, infomal night with the band, all welcome to contribute something whether song, tune or poem. Or( a new feature) a bit of tap or clogging or step-dancing as we have a nice bit of hardboard to put down in front of the band. And, as ever, a chance for the maximum number of people to play the Stoke and Hanley Hornpipes ensemble. Starts around 9PM, but as regulars all know you need to get there a bit earlier if you want a serat anywhere near the action.
ETRURIA CANALS FESTIVAL This event runs on Fri and Sat June 4/5. The Boat Band will be on Sunday, with a morning and an afternoon spot (probably 11.30ish and 3.30 ish). In the middle the justly celebrated Clay Chorus(musical directors Kate Barfield and Greg Stephens) will be singing round the site between 1 and 2PM.
Forward planning(further afield): The Boat Band will be at Middlewich Folk and Boat Festival(which runs from June 17-19, we'll be there on the Sunday). And then, as is the annual custom, we will be playing(for the fifteenth time) at Glastonbury Festival. Our main spot will be in the Croissant Neuf Field on the afternnon of Sat June 25. Bit of a hike, and expensive, to get there, but well worth it as we always play with a specially super-augmented line-up of old friends at Glasto. There is also the chance to see quite a lot of other marginally more famous bands as well.
And, for those with a lot of time on their hands, here is a lovely set of about a million pics that Sam Roth took of the band at a wonderfully happy series of gigs at the Liverpool Shanty Festival a few weeks back. Photographer Sam Roth's documentation of the Boat Band, Liverpool Shanty Festival 2011. Usual end bit: sick of newsletters? Got in the address book by accident?Let us know and we'll delete you from the list. | ||
