Hello everyone, May I on behalf of the Team, Angela and myself - wish you a very happy, healthy and successful 2011. HUNGRY HORSE FOLK CLUB: This Thursday 13th January - sees the wonderful quartet FIDDLESTONE as our special guests with support from VOCAL POINT. Ring 0151-678-9902 to reserve your seats in advance. A new hard copy programme for the club is attached. But we wish to point out - 2 major changes have taken place: - Thursday 27th January - is still a 'Singers & Musicians night' BUT the band ILDANACH will be doing a 'Big Spot' Among others, the band includes those superb performers - John Murphy, Kevin Webster and Liam Murphy, formerly of "Garva". Still plenty of time though for yourselves to perform as ever. Free admission. Thursday 3rd February - was originally a 'Singers & Musicians night'. PLEASE NOTE - it is now a special guest concert night. In fact it is a double bill concert as our special guest acts will be: - DAVE & JEMMA HUGHES -- Dad and daughter both have beautiful voices and Dave is a wiz on guitar. He is also the organiser of PORKIE'S FC at Poynton. Dave was for many years a part of the duo Sad Pig with the brilliant singer Judy Wilcock before her premature and tragic passing a few years back. In addition The superb young trio - TRI with NAOMH BOADLE - will be fronting Dave and Jemma with a couple of very lively sets. Some of you may have seem them at last year's Wirral Folk on the Coast Festival where they went down a storm. Thursday 17th February - please hurry and book your tickets for the STEVE KNIGHTLEY / JIM CAUSLEY night - 0151-678-9902. Tickets are selling very fast. John & Angie Owen 0151-678-9902 The following info has been received both from Eric Cox and Craig Pickering: The first two shows (Pete Morton, Chris @ Julie) have been rearranged for the Summer...if we have one! (see Eric's note below). The 'Local Live Showcase' should therefore be the first show in the new improved Biddulph Arms, the full line-up for which will be finalised shortly. It is the the start of a big week for local artists as you can see from the updated gig list on the website. We will be saying goodbye to Chris and Diane on Friday Jan 14th (8pm) at the Arms if you fancy popping in for a drink. I hope it is not too late to wish you all a happy new year and see you hopefully in February. Www.biddulphupinarms.com Biddulph Up in Arms Concerts : January 2011 Biddulph Up In Arms Concerts (Biddulph Folk Club) has had to rearrange its next two concerts....as the Biddulph Arms is due to close for three weeks for refurbishment, before the new tenants take over. This has come at an unfortunate time for us as our other local venue, Biddulph Town Hall, is also closed until March because of extensive building work. Therefore we have no other option but to delay our New Year programme and rearrange the Pete Morton and Chris While and Julie Matthews gigs later on in the year. The good news is, however, that the new landlord of Biddulph Arms is more than happy to support us and we hope to carry on where we left off in December. So........we reopen on Wednesday 16 February with a Local Live Show Case which has proved extremely popular in the past and features some of the very talented local support acts we have had at the club over the past year. The rearranged concerts will feature in The Biddulph Festival in summer........ Wednesday 29 June: Pete Morton (Biddulph Arms) Tuesday 19 July: Chris While and Julie Matthews (Biddulph Town Hall) ......appearing on the same bill as Loud Mouth Women. With Martin Simpson also been booked at Biddulph Town Hall on Wednesday 13 July.......and Folk in the Park is on Saturday 9 July at Biddulph Grange Country Park.... We are getting a strong line-up organised....with more to follow!! Before that however we are involved in a couple of new events outside Biddulph .....On Sunday 20 February Craig has organised a concert at The Rigger in Newcastle ....featuring the London based country-rock band The Rockingbirds....and supported by Elvis Fontenot and the Sugar Bees .... which should be a terrific night ( further details/tickets contact Craig Pickering 01782 523277). Also we are promoting, in conjunction with Clonter Opera Theatre at Swettenham Heath near Congleton, a Show of Hands concert on Saturday 2 April. Seats are numbered and tickets can be obtained from their box-office is 01260 224514. Already over 100 tickets have been sold (For more details including a seating plan see their web-site www.clonteropera.com ). |
