Fw: Fil Campbell presents Songbirds in new Antrim arts centre.

'Fil Campbell presents Songbirds' is the very first music performance of the newly opened Arts Centre at the Old Courthouse in Antrim on Friday 28th May at 7.30pm and a great way to start the Whit weekend holiday.

These are the songs that come to every Irish music lovers lips at the pluck of a harp or the beat of a bodhran.

There could be no better songbird than Fil Campbell to lovingly recreate the songs and life stories of our forebears with this live performance. She is joined by Tom McFarland (percussion and vocals) and Brendan Emmett (guitar and mandolin).

Songbirds is the show that all ages of Irish music fans will love, take their parents to, indulge their family memories, and reminisce about good old Ireland and the popular ballads of their youth.
But there is much more....the show is about powerful and intelligent women who packed out halls, and helped the Resistance in war torn Europe.

Focusing on the old Irish folk songs that Fil and generations of Irish singers learned as children, Songbirds was developed into a 6 part TV documentary series for RTE Television in Ireland, documenting the lives and music of Delia Murphy and 4 other very influential female singers

Mary O'Hara, Bridie Gallagher, Ruby Murray and Margaret Barry - who all sang similar material in different styles.

Fil narrated the series which is available in its entirety on DVD at live concerts and in it you get snippets of her singing the old songs along with guest performers like Sean Keane and Finbar Fury

Now that the Old Courthouse Arts Centre in Antrim has been lovingly restored, it is most certainly one of the jewels in Antrim's crown.

Its opening in May has created an exciting opportunity to host a range of performing arts events on a year round basis in the new multi-purpose auditorium.  As well as cultural events, the auditorium has the potential to host other activities such as conferences, public meetings and lectures.
