Cheshire East Folk News

Dear Folks,

I hope you have all had a great summer of festivals..it's not over yet of course with Fylde this weekend and Bromyard a little later this month. Tony Cox will be at Fylde. He had great reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe so don't miss this South African guitarist. If you do miss him on this occasion you can always book him through me for your own events. Take a look http://www.amandalynnemusic.com/index.php?page=bio&display=213

Dabbers Session meets this Thursday (Tonight ) at the Oddfellows Arms in Welsh Row Nantwich 8pm. and every first Thursday of the month.
Please join us, all are welcome. It's also one of the nicest pubs in Nantwich ! Give me a call if you need directions.

The Boat Band celebrate their 20th Anniversary at the New Vic Theatre in Newcastle with special guests from the original line up.
You can book tickets here and will also see some other notable folk gigs lined up. http://www.newvictheatre.org.uk/v3_5w/concerts.html
Apparently the more events you book, the cheaper it gets. See details on the ticket page and kick off the autumn with The Boat Band. Here's a clip of them at Glastonbury with the addition of Fluff on the left hiding behind some foliage. Her hat and fiddle playing gave her away !

Henry Priestman (of The Christians fame) on Sept 23 has now moved also to Biddulph Town Hall again at 8pm.

Our next country/Americana extravaganza will take place on Saturday 17th Oct at The Swan in Leek featuring a fabulous pairing of singer-songwriters Slaid Cleaves and Diana Jones.
It is a joint venture with the Cuckoo's Nest Folk Club and importantly has an even earlier start of 7.30pm. In addition to the usual outlets tickets priced £15 are available from The Swan itself (01538-382081), Dave Rhead (01538-385260), Leek Tourist Information (01538-483741), Music Mania in Hanley (01782-206000) and Bridge St. Music in Newcastle-Under-Lyme (01782-633222).

The final gig of 2009 and again slightly different from an earlier flier is Thea Gilmore who brings her Christmas show 'Wintertide' to Biddulph Town Hall on Friday Dec 11 and not Nov 28 as originally advertised.  Miriam Backhouse and David Etheridge reunited this summer over 30 years after recording 'Gypsy Without A Road', to take a new slant on Miriams' traditional song with Davids' orchestral, multi track layering and production talents. I look forward to hearing this innovative new recording. They are available for bookings together next summer when Mim's next UK tour begins.

Lyra Celtica have also been recording and this beautiful wildlife video 'Haughs Of Cromdale' is just a taster of what is to come http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk7umyjBOsA
